CANINE PORTRAIT SESSIONS

Our Canine Portrait Sessions are designed to beautifully capture the heart and soul of your beloved companion. Every dog has a story, and these sessions focus on showcasing their unique personality — from playful energy to quiet loyalty — in timeless, fine art images.

Set during the golden light of sunrise or sunset, each session takes place in a natural outdoor setting, allowing your dog to be photographed in a relaxed, authentic environment. Whether it’s an intimate moment shared between you and your dog or a joyful family portrait, the goal is to highlight the special bond you share!

To ensure a seamless experience, all sessions include a complimentary prep guide. After your session, you’ll receive sneak peeks on social media, followed by professionally retouched, small watermarked digital images delivered within 2–4 weeks of your shoot.

Each portrait is thoughtfully created to highlight the unconditional love, joy, and companionship your dog brings into your life — preserving those moments as timeless art for years to come.

When choosing a location, we will ensure that it will compliment your dog's personality & looks. I aim for locations that aren't frequented by dogs often to ensure that our shoot remains positive! I will offer suggestions of locations but I LOVE when clients share locations they love and what to try!

FAQ

How long will it take to get photos back?

I truly pride myself in a fast turnaround time. When you book your sessions, I give my all from the start to the end. Due to the extensive nature of the edits and being a mom, I tell my clients that my turnaround is anywhere from 3-6 weeks. Sometimes it can be sooner depending on my workload!

I do my best to communicate OFTEN with clients to keep them in the loop of editing time!

My dog can't be off leash, is that going to be a problem?

That is 100% okay! In fact, sessions tend to go smoother when there is leash on to provide communication to the dog and limit the stress. All leashes will be edited out in final production.

I LOVE the traditional sit, down and stand photos, but I also love to incorporate the natural behavior of your dog! This includes running, jumping, barking etc.

Can I share my photos on social media?

Absolutely! I love seeing my work featured on clients social media feed!

All I ask is that photos are not altered in any way (i.e no filters or special effect editing & no submissions to online contests without prior permission) and please provide credit to Lauren Sumida Photography.

What happens if the weather isn't good?

Sometimes weather decides to have a mind of its own! As our sessions get closer I will be watching the forecast to make sure there is no severe thunderstorms or extreme wind. I will shoot in rain! It creates a beautiful moody effect and can make for a memorable session. However, if you prefer to not have a shoot in the rain, you will be allowed to reschedule a "rain shoot" within the next 7 days.

I would love to have photos of my dogs together, but they will not sit still when they are next to each other?

Don't we love the rowdy kids!

All jokes aside, that is okay! I will be able to shoot dogs individually, in the same location and make a composite in post production of them sitting next to each other!

How can I best prepare myself and my dog for our shoot?

Lucky for you, I have taken the knowledge and experience of photographing dogs over the years and have created a Canine Prep guide to best help you prepare for your upcoming shoot! This is a complimentary guide that I provide to anyone who books a session!
