Our Horse & Rider Sessions are designed to capture the connection between the equestrian and the horse in a refined, timeless way. These portraits focus on the partnership you have built together — trust, communication, and the quiet moments that define your relationship both in and out of the saddle.

Horse & Rider sessions are ideal for celebrating meaningful moments throughout your journey. Whether documenting graduation photos, family portraits, competition milestones, sales imagery, or simply preserving a season in time, each session is customized with purpose and care. The result is a curated collection of photographs that not only reflect where you are now, but honor the partnership that brought you there.

Using the natural elements of the barn setting, each session incorporates stable aisles, open paddocks, fences, riding rings, and surrounding landscapes to create imagery that feels organic and timeless. Natural light is carefully observed and used to enhance both subject and setting, resulting in portraits that are clean, balanced, and true to the atmosphere of the property.

To ensure a seamless experience, all sessions include a complimentary prep guide. After your session, you’ll receive sneak peeks on social media, followed by professionally retouched, small watermarked digital images delivered within 2–4 weeks of your shoot.

FAQ

When should I expect to see my photos?

I truly pride myself in a fast turnaround time. When you book your sessions, I give my all from the start to the end. Due to the extensive nature of the edits and being a mom, I tell my clients that my turnaround is anywhere from 3-6 weeks. Sometimes it can be sooner depending on my workload!

I do my best to communicate OFTEN with clients to keep them in the loop of editing time!

I will also post sneak peaks on my social media accounts, so make sure to follow those!

Do you offer a barn discount?

Yes! If three or more people are booking from the same barn everyone will receive 15% off their session. You must be booking at the same location, same date and within the same time frame! So make sure to coordinate with your barn friends to make it happen!

Can I share my photos on social media?

Absolutely! I love seeing my work featured on clients social media feed!

All I ask is that photos are not altered in any way (i.e no filters or special effect editing & no submissions to online contests without prior permission) and please provide credit to Lauren Sumida Photography.

What happens if the weather isn't good?

Sometimes weather decides to have a mind of its own! As our sessions get closer I will be watching the forecast to make sure there is no severe thunderstorms or extreme wind. I will shoot in rain! It creates a beautiful moody effect and can make for a memorable session. However, if you prefer to not have a shoot in the rain, you will be allowed to reschedule a "rain shoot" within the next 7 days.

What if I don't want tack on my horse for the photos?

No problem at all! I have a thin halter that we can use and is easy to remove in post production to give the "naked" look.

How can I best prepare myself and my horse(s) for our shoot?

Lucky for you, I have taken the knowledge and experience of being around horses for the last 12 year and have created a Horse Prep guide to best help you prepare for your upcoming shoot! This is a complimentary guide that I provide to anyone who books a session!
